Vegan spinach pasta sauce | ready in under 10 minutes!
What’s your favorite pasta sauce? I love to eat pasta with a hearty tomato sauce but lately, I wanted to try out something new. So I came up with this creamy vegan spinach pasta sauce and now I can’t get enough of it! I am a huge fan of pasta, especially spaghetti, it’s such a delicious comfort food. When you scroll through my blog you will notice that I love comfort food like curry or chili.
Pasta is wonderful, everyone loves it, but eating pasta with tomato sauce gets boring after a while. That’s why I started experimenting in my kitchen. This recipe contains healthy ingredients, which are spinach, basil, garlic, coconut milk and a couple of spices. I wanted to make this vegan spinach pasta sauce as simple as possible and it takes actually only 8 minutes to create this easy recipe.
I love eating delicious food but I love it, even more, when my meals are healthy and good for my body. After making some research about spinach I am even more in love with this vegan spinach pasta sauce because spinach has some amazing health benefits which are described here:
The health benefits of spinach include improved eyesight, healthy blood pressure, stronger muscles, the prevention of age-related macular degeneration (AMD), cataracts, atherosclerosis, heart attacks, neurological benefits, bone mineralization, anti-ulcerative and anti-cancerous benefits, skin protection, healthy fetal development, and boosted growth for infants… The various health benefits of spinach are due to the presence of minerals, vitamins, pigments, and phytonutrients.
Vegan spinach pasta sauce ready in under 10 minutes
Making this creamy sauce from start to finish took me only 8 minutes! I am not kidding, it’s one of the easiest recipes which is not only delicious but also very healthy. You will only need a few ingredients to make this nutrient-rich spinach sauce.

Vegan spinach pasta sauce with basil and garlic
I added a handful of basil to this recipe because I love the flavor of basil and furthermore basil is considered one of the healthiest herbs. Of course, I also added garlic to this creamy vegan spinach pasta sauce since garlic makes all savory dishes even more delicious in my opinion.

Vegan spinach pasta sauce
Ingredients
- 3 oz fresh spinach (90 g)
- 1 handful fresh basil
- 1 cup light coconut milk (240 ml)
- 2 tbsp nutritional yeast flakes
- 1 tbsp potato starch or corn starch
- 2 cloves garlic
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1/3 to 1/2 tsp salt (or to taste)
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 1 pinch nutmeg
Instructions
- Put all ingredients in your food processor or blender and mix until it's smooth
- Transfer the mixture into a saucepan and bring to a boil, stir occasionally
- Let simmer for 2 minutes
- Pour the sauce over your cooked pasta and enjoy

This recipe is so simple yet bursting with flavour. The combination of nutmeg with basil was pure harmony. I’d never thought of making a spinach sauce with coconut milk before. Made this today for my son’s dinner with oat pasta. To my taste buds it was too mild but my son liked it despite the fact that he is a fan of regular pesto, so I didn’t try to change it anyhow just added cherry tomato halves and sprinkled with “parmesan cheese” (cashew+nutritional yeast) 🌱😊 Thank you for sharing this recipe 💚

I sprinkled some chilli on mine, but not in the sauce prior to cooking, for some extra flavour. might be an option if you make it again and want a little more flavour kick without altering the recipe prior to making 🙂

This sounds savory and simple and perfect on top of so many things! I love pesto but sometimes it can be too basil-y for me, so this seems like the perfect alternative with just a little bit of basil and lots of greens packed in too 🙂 And the coconut milk instead of nuts swap sounds lovely too, I always have plenty of that on hand!

Beautiful dish, yet- so simple! I couldn’t agree more Ela, after a while, eating pasta with tomato sauce can get a bit boring, so the pesto sauce is such a nice change! And I love spinach, I do not go through even one day in the week when i do not eat it, so this is defo something I’m pinning for later!

Can I use something else instead of the coconut milk? Maybe another plant- based drink?
Hi Judith, of course you can, but if you use a different plant based milk with less fat it wont be a bit less creamy 🙂

I don’t understand 1tbsp of potato ? Is that potatoe flakes? Or like a whole raw potatoe?
Like mentioned in the recipe either 1 tbsp of potato starch or 1 tbsp of corn starch.

Excellent recipe, I omitted the nutmeg which brought more of the garlic taste and added hemp seeds for an extra nutritional kick.
